As we drive through the Venetian Walls of Nicosia before crossing the Green Line into Northern Nicosia, the difference is immediately noticeable. An older, more traditional town than the modern capital city of the south appears. High in the Pentadaktylos Mountains range are the ruins of the once magnificent 800 year old Abbey of Bellapais, with spectacular views down to Kerynia on the coast and across the northern plains.
You’ll have free time for lunch in the harbour town of Kerynia, where the castle at the end of the harbour walls is well worth a visit.
